Frosty Woods - A Winter Way Over Yonder Trail Adventure

Immerse yourself in the heart of winter trail running with the 4th Annual Way Over Yonder Trail Run Series, set to take place on November 29, 2026. This beloved event has been thrilling runners and riders for over two decades in Ringwood's scenic forest, offering an unparalleled blend of adventure and camaraderie.
The course is meticulously marked with arrow signs and survey tape to ensure a smooth experience even as you navigate through the woods at full speed. The trail features stunning views that make every step worthwhile. For 2025, the Half Marathon route has been updated to offer a contiguous 13.1-mile loop with an elevation gain of 1,600 feet, providing both challenge and beauty. Meanwhile, the 10K course includes rolling hills and climbs totaling 700 feet in elevation. The 5K race is accessible for runners of all ages and abilities, featuring its own set of breathtaking vistas along just under 400 feet of elevation gain.
Participants will encounter a cupless aid station at Mile 5.1 for the Half Marathon and Mile 4.5 for the 10K, so be sure to bring your hydration pack or water bottle with you. Final route adjustments may occur based on course conditions but participants will receive updates via email ahead of time.
Enhance your navigation experience by downloading RideWithGPS, which provides audio cues that help guide runners back onto the correct path should they miss a turn marker during their run. The app can be pre-loaded or used with GPX files for other mapping applications.
Winter in Ringwood's Ramapo Mountains is unpredictable but typically ranges from 25 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit by late November, making layered clothing essential. Long sleeve technical T-shirts and running tights are recommended, along with trail running shoes or hiking boots. Microspikes or Yaktrax provide the necessary traction on snowy terrain.
Parking at Shepard Lake offers easy access to both start and finish lines. Post-race festivities include a celebration complete with food and drinks for all participants and volunteers alike.
