Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Carter Road at Loyce E Harpe Park, where nature's challenges meet runner’s ambitions. The Funest 50k/30k/10k is set to take place on Saturday, April 17th, offering a grueling yet exhilarating course that twists and turns through the abandoned phosphate mine area. Runners will encounter rolling hills and sand trails meticulously crafted over years into awe-inspiring mountain bike paths. The terrain presents both technical challenges and breathtaking scenery, with sections demanding even elite runners to push beyond their usual pace limits. This race is a true test of endurance but also an adventure that rewards those who embrace its wild spirit. Registration caps at 125 participants for this year's event, ensuring a more intimate experience as you traverse the park’s trails in loops: 10k loop for the shorter distances and up to five laps for the full 50k challenge. The course is clearly marked with over 600 markers along its route, yet it is recommended that runners carry charged phones just in case. Aid stations provide essential hydration and electrolytes at both the start area and around the 3.5-mile point, while finishers will receive socks and a unique finisher sticker. Top three overall male and female winners, as well as first masters (age group) male and female participants, will be awarded medals in recognition of their achievements. To fuel up before or after your race journey, head to the start/finish area where Quesadillas, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and an abundance of Bacon await. For longer distances like 30k and 50k, Chicken is served post-10:30am, with Pulled Pork and Brisket available after 11:30am. Bib pickup takes place on race day from 6 to 7:20 am at Loyce E Harpe Park. The event starts promptly at 7:30 am near the park’s entrance shelter. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of Florida's toughest yet most rewarding races! Registration and more details can be found online, with a portion of each entry fee going back into maintaining Polk County Parks & Rec facilities. Join us for an unforgettable day in the wilds of Carter Road!
