Gala Harriers Pail Merk Mile

The Pail Merks Mile is set to debut as part of Gala Harriers' year-long celebration leading up to their historic 125th anniversary. Scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, this inaugural trial event will exclusively welcome runners based in the Scottish Borders.
Designed with inclusivity and community spirit at its core, The Pail Merks Mile caters to all levels of running experience—from novice milers to seasoned racers. Eligibility is open only to members of local clubs or individual runners residing within the borders region, ensuring a tight-knit atmosphere for participants aged U12 and above as per Scottish Athletics guidelines.
Upon registration, entrants will provide an estimated mile time to help organizers allocate them into appropriate heats based on their pace. The evening's schedule is thoughtfully arranged with slower groups starting earlier in the day, gradually progressing towards faster races by nightfall. This strategic timing ensures a supportive environment where every participant feels valued and encouraged.
The event takes place at Tweedbank Sports Complex (TD1 3RS), offering runners not only competitive racing but also an engaging atmosphere enhanced by live DJ music and dynamic lighting effects. As the sun sets, the venue transforms into a vibrant celebration of personal achievement and camaraderie.
Entry is managed through Entry Central with a registration fee of £5 per person. To commemorate their efforts, top performers in each heat will receive special Pail Merks Mile mementos as recognition for their dedication and performance.
