The Glen Ogle 33 Ultramarathon, nestled within the rugged beauty of Perthshire's Scottish Highlands, challenges participants with its grueling yet scenic route from Killin to Strathyre and back. This race covers approximately 33 miles along part of Cycle Route No. 7 and the Rob Roy Way. The journey begins in the picturesque village of Killin, where runners pass by the majestic Falls of Dochart before ascending into the hills above. The trail then descends over the iconic Glen Ogle Viaduct, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, water stations are strategically placed at 4-, 8- and 16-mile markers to ensure participants stay hydrated. At Balquhidder, runners pay homage to Rob Roy MacGregor's burial site before heading towards Strathyre and its historic Shoogly Bridge. The halfway checkpoint in Strathyre provides an opportunity for drop bags, but competitors must be cautious of the strict 12:30 PM cut-off time; those who fail to adhere will face disqualification. The return leg takes runners back up onto the Rob Roy Way, passing by the charming Mhor 84 Hotel. The route then retraces its steps over the Glen Ogle Viaduct and through the Pass of Glencoul before concluding with a thrilling four-mile downhill stretch that leads to the finish line in Killin. Given the race's November setting amidst the harsh Scottish Highlands, participants are required to carry mandatory gear for their safety. Detailed briefing information, including rules and kit requirements, will be sent out two weeks prior to the event date; it is each runner’s responsibility to thoroughly understand this documentation before the day of the race. Registration fees include a non-refundable administration cost if withdrawn within 30 days of entry or up to three months from registration. No refunds are provided between 12 weeks and race day, nor will deferrals be accepted; places cannot be transferred either.
