God's Own Backyard Ultra, part of the renowned Backyard Ultra Series, invites runners to compete for a coveted spot at Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra through the BYU Championship. This unique race takes place at Hunters Greave on Pollard Lane near Leeds and challenges participants with its distinctive format. The event features an unrelenting 4.167-mile loop that competitors must complete every hour starting from midnight onwards to remain in contention. To advance, runners must finish their lap before the next bell sounds; otherwise, they will be disqualified as a DNF (Did Not Finish). The race continues until only one competitor remains standing. Participants can camp at the start/finish area, where food and drink stations are provided. However, it is recommended that athletes bring their own nutrition to fuel them through this grueling challenge. Public transport options such as Kirkstall Forge rail station offer easy access for those looking to minimize environmental impact during travel. The course itself presents a mix of terrain including canal towpaths, farmland trails, woodland paths, and tarmac roads. Although the elevation gain is significant on each lap, it can still be completed within an hour’s time limit. A night yard ensures safety by avoiding dark crossings over the canal via a lit-up tarmac path. Competitors are advised to wear appropriate gear for all weather conditions and may need headlamps with spare batteries if they plan to run through the night. The event also offers XCover insurance, providing participants the option of receiving a refund should unforeseen circumstances prevent their attendance. All runners will receive Yorkshire-themed goodie bags filled with hot and cold drinks along with sweets at various points throughout the race. Additionally, t-shirts and hoodies are available for purchase during the event. The God's Own Backyard Ultra is not just about running; it’s a testament to endurance and resilience in one of England’s most picturesque settings.
