Embrace the rugged beauty of Vermont's Southwest Kingdom with Gorey Hollows VIII, an exhilarating adventure that caters to all levels of off-road enthusiasts. This year, four distinct ride options are available: the brutal 90-mile Race, the versatile Scramble (choose any two out of three loops), the scenic Ramble (pick one loop), and a relaxed Amble for those seeking a leisurely exploration. The classic 90-mile ATB race is a true test of endurance, featuring rocky class 4 roads, extended hike-a-bike sections, and steep climbs. The Scramble offers two challenging loops with plenty of singletrack and technical terrain. Meanwhile, the Ramble invites you to explore one loop at your own pace, while the Amble provides an easygoing 15-mile ride through picturesque landscapes. All routes are self-navigated with minimal support—just a GPS track and notes will guide you along the way. The event is rain or shine; insurance is recommended for peace of mind. Camping registration now happens via Hip Camp, offering cost savings when traveling in groups. More details on camping sign-ups will be sent to registered participants. Gorey Hollows VIII promises an unforgettable experience with some of Vermont’s most scenic and gnarly ATB riding. The ride weaves through dense forests and open farmlands, showcasing stunning views and a variety of terrain challenges. Starting at the Sugar House HQ, racers can restock on supplies before tackling their chosen loops. The Amble is designed for those who want to enjoy the fall scenery without exerting too much effort; it covers approximately 15 miles with manageable climbs and dirt roads. The Ramble stretches about 30 miles, featuring a mix of challenging singletrack, class 4 roads, and plenty of climbing. For the ambitious Scramblers, two loops offer varying degrees of difficulty, while the Race requires completing all three loops in any order. The race itself is an old-school affair with no sag wagon or ride leader, making it more like a free-for-all event where racers rely on their GPS tracks and cue sheets to navigate. Mandatory check-ins after each loop ensure safety and fairness. Participants are expected to bring basic tools for bike repairs, first aid kits, and sturdy walking shoes suitable for loose, wet terrains. Prizes include a handmade ATB wheelset for the race winner, pie for second place, and donuts for third. Additional treats like coffee, dinner from local favorites at Poultney Pub, and free Octoberfest beers await post-ride celebrations around the campfire. Join Gorey Hollows VIII to challenge yourself amidst breathtaking Vermont landscapes or simply enjoy a relaxing ride through nature’s autumn palette. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore some of the most rugged trails in Vermont.
