Göta Canal Swim Meet returns for its 29th edition, promising an exhilarating experience along the historic Göta Kanal. This year’s highlight is the expanded "ICA Oxen Open" competition with distances ranging from 5000 meters to a sprint of just 200 meters. The event aims to attract swimmers of all ages and skill levels, building on last year's success which saw over 250 participants. Swimmers will take to Göta Canal’s waters at various times: the main events kick off with a cannon shot at 17:30 for most races, while the shorter 200-meter event begins earlier at 17:15. The canal stretches an impressive over 2.5 kilometers and offers unique challenges such as ascending locks along its route. Safety is paramount during this event; numerous officials line both sides of the canal to ensure swimmers’ well-being, while boats patrol from a distance for added security. Spectators are encouraged to cheer on their loved ones throughout the course, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere that extends beyond just those in the water. The primary competition features a 5000-meter race and a 1550-meter event, both open to men and women across competitive and recreational categories. Additionally, there's a shorter but equally challenging 600-meter sprint for all interested swimmers. For fun and camaraderie, the Kajutanloppet offers a mixed-class 200-meter race without official timing; however, all participants who complete this short dash receive an exclusive swimming arm band as recognition of their achievement. Late registrations are accepted on competition day between noon and 14:45 at the event office. Prize-giving takes place promptly at 8 PM in a venue to be announced later.
