On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Goulburn East Public School will host bike skills sessions designed to help young riders build confidence and control. The school's holiday program offers two distinct sessions tailored for different skill levels. The Beginner Session is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, aimed at children who can ride on their own but are still developing core riding abilities. This session provides a supportive environment where kids can work on basic skills and gain confidence under the guidance of experienced coaches. For more advanced riders looking to refine their techniques, an Advanced Session is available from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Participants in this group should be comfortable with one-handed riding for at least 20 meters, standing up while pedaling and maintaining control, and navigating small obstacles without touching the ground. Parents are encouraged to help their children choose the right session based on these criteria but can also register a child for either option, knowing that coaches will assess and guide participants appropriately during the event. Each participant must bring along a well-maintained bicycle, helmet, water bottle, comfortable clothing, and closed-toe shoes. The sessions take place at Goulburn East Public School's Basketball Courts/COLA area, accessible through the May Street pedestrian gate. While light rain won't cancel the event, severe weather conditions may lead to cancellation; parents will be notified if this occurs. These bike skills programs are part of the NSW Government’s Get Kids Active initiative, which aims to support families in walking and cycling to school safely by fostering a sense of confidence and competence among young riders. The sessions are delivered by AusBike with funding from the government program, ensuring that all participants can attend free of charge. For more information or any questions about registration, interested parties should contact Ben Thomson at benjamin.thomson@auscycling.org.au.
