Experience the thrill of competition and camaraderie at the New York State Team Time Trial Championships on Grand Island. This prestigious event, hosted by the Buffalo Bicycling Club, offers an exhilarating ride through the scenic suburban environment that has been a favorite for local cycling enthusiasts. The course is a 20.5-mile continuous loop around the perimeter of Grand Island, NY. Known for its flat terrain with minimal intersections and turns, this route provides a challenging yet manageable test of teamwork and endurance. The start line will be on West River Road, but participants can warm up in safety on the adjacent bike path. Teams consist of three or four riders starting individually at two-minute intervals. Your team's time is determined by the third rider to cross the finish line, encouraging strategic coordination among teammates. This event serves as both a New York State Team Time Trial Championship and the Grand Island Team Time Trial in memory of Glenn Hansen, who passed away from cancer in 2009. A variety of categories ensure there’s something for everyone: - Elite Open TTT: For mixed teams with any USAC category. - Elite Women TTT: Designed specifically for women riders across all USAC categories. - Open Cat 4/Novice: A mix of men and women who are Category 4 or Novice USAC licenses, including one-day licenses. For those new to road racing or triathletes without a USA Cycling license, the Women's Cat 4/Novice category is perfect. The Open Master’s 45+ category caters to experienced riders aged 45 and above, with specific age requirements for women based on USAC rules. Registration is required well in advance as this event operates on a pre-registration-only basis. Participants can purchase One-Day USAC licenses if needed during the checkout process. The first start time will be at 9:45 AM, with subsequent teams starting every two minutes until approximately 11:00 AM for Elite Women. After completing your team time trial, you have the option to participate in individual events or join a "cannibal" event specifically designed for open men and women on mass-start legal road bikes. These categories offer competitive racing without championship titles. The venue at GP50 (2770 Long Road, Grand Island) serves as both start/finish line and parking area. Medal ceremonies will take place there around 1:00-1:30 PM, with top teams in each category receiving prizes from sponsors including Kanberra Gel, Bert's Bikes & Fitness, Campus Wheelworks, Handlebars Cycle Company, Love & Sprockets, Shickluna Bikes, and Tom's Pro Bike Shop. NY State Championship jerseys will be awarded to the winning teams. Remember to park at designated areas like GP50 or north of the finish line to avoid congestion near the start/finish area. This event promises a memorable experience with beautiful scenery, friendly competition, and supportive community atmosphere.
