Starting at the picturesque Rancho Santa Fe Road in Escondido's charming neighbourhood, runners will enjoy a scenic route through verdant parks and quiet streets. On race morning, expect crisp early-morning temperatures around 22 degrees Celsius with light breezes—perfect for a brisk start to your day. The course is known for its hard and dry surface, offering both challenge and comfort.
For over a decade, this event has been more than just a run; it’s a community gathering that supports the MS Society and the Escondido Sunrise Rotary Club. Each year sees hundreds of participants gather to contribute not only through their running but also by raising funds for these important causes. The Grape Day 5k is deeply rooted in local tradition, fostering camaraderie among runners who share a common goal.
The race offers both an in-person and virtual option: the actual 5K run on September 5th, along with a virtual participation that can be completed at any time of your choosing. Both distances are designed to challenge and inspire.
Course venue begins at Rancho Santa Fe Road and follows a laid-back trail through Escondido's greenery before concluding back in the heart of the city. The start is marked by enthusiastic volunteers, while the finish line is celebrated with refreshments provided by local businesses. Elevation changes are minimal on this flat course; however, there will be three aid stations along the route to ensure hydration and nutrition support.
The weather forecast predicts a comfortable race day atmosphere. Temperatures range from 16.9 to 27.6 degrees Celsius, feeling much like they would in early autumn with around 73% humidity levels. A light breeze of about six meters per second makes for pleasant running conditions, while the UV index at five means sunscreen is recommended but not essential.
