Grayson Highlands 50 Mile / 50k / 25k

Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Grayson Highlands as you prepare for the 13th annual trail races. This year, runners can choose from four distinct courses that cater to various skill levels and endurance capacities: the grueling 50-mile route, the challenging 50k race, a scenic 25k trek, or an invigorating 8-mile run.
The terrain of Grayson Highlands offers a mix of steep climbs and winding trails through dense forests and across open meadows. The courses are designed to showcase the park’s stunning natural scenery while providing runners with a genuine trail running experience that emphasizes adventure over precision distance measurements. Each route features significant elevation gains, ranging from 1,200 feet for the shortest course up to an impressive 7,500 feet for the longest.
Participants will gather on Friday evening between 4-7 PM at packet pickup to collect their race materials and meet fellow runners. On Saturday morning, the 50-mile and 50k races begin with staggered start times: the 50-miler kicks off at 5:30 AM while the shorter distance starts two hours later. The Sunday event sees both the 25k and 8-mile courses set to go at 8:30 AM.
At the finish line, all participants will be greeted with a commemorative pint glass and a striking medal that commemorates their achievement. Professional race photographers capture every moment of your journey, providing free images upon request. Additionally, top male and female runners in each category earn special recognition through awards presented at the event.
Beyond personal accomplishment, this race supports local conservation efforts by contributing to the maintenance and preservation of Grayson Highlands State Park, as well as aiding nearby rescue squads and friends groups dedicated to protecting these natural areas.
For those who need more flexibility with their registration, bib transfers or deferrals are available up until 90 days before the event date. After this period, refunds are not possible, but half-credit towards another Run Bum Race of equal or lesser value can be applied within a year's time frame for any unused entries.
