Great Barrow Challenge Day 3

About the Event

Experience the Great Barrow Challenge at Suffolk Running Centre on July 31, 2027, where runners of all levels can find their perfect distance among a variety of routes over ten days. Day Three features the Quackers route, offering an engaging mix of road and trail running with stunning scenery.
The Quackers course is a dynamic loop starting from Suffolk Running Centre's campsite in Bury St Edmunds. Spanning 10.7 kilometers (6.7 miles), it balances paved roads and rugged trails, providing runners with both smooth surfaces for speed and challenging terrain to test endurance. With an elevation gain of around 109 meters, the route includes high points at approximately 91 meters above sea level and low points near 48 meters.
Participants can choose from various distances:
- A single loop completes a 10k.
- Two loops make up a half marathon.
- Four loops cover the full marathon distance.
- Ultra runners have two options: completing four loops plus an additional stretch to the 5k turnpoint, or tackling five complete loops.
The route's versatility allows for flexibility in pacing and strategy. Runners aiming for shorter distances will be directed to a specific 5k turnpoint before retracing their steps back to the start/finish line.
Safety measures include mandatory water stations at key points along the course, ensuring hydration is readily available throughout your run. Additionally, runners must bring reusable bottles or cups due to the event's "cupless" initiative aimed at reducing waste.
Participants should leave pets and strollers behind as they are not permitted on this route due to safety concerns on open roads. Headphones, except for bone conduction models, are also prohibited to maintain awareness of surroundings and fellow runners.
For those unable to join in person, the virtual race option is available through Zig Zag Running's website. This allows runners from around the world to participate at their convenience while still contributing to a vibrant community of athletes sharing common goals and challenges.
Bespoke medals await all participants upon completion of each day’s event, celebrating your achievement with unique designs reflecting the spirit of The Great Barrow Challenge.
