Great Barrow Challenge Day 8

About the Event

Experience the Great Barrow Challenge at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road in Bury St Edmunds for an unforgettable 10-day running series that caters to all levels of runners, from casual joggers to marathon enthusiasts. On Day Eight, participants will tackle the Mill Wind Half Route, a challenging yet rewarding course that showcases some of East Anglia's most scenic landscapes.
The route itself is a dynamic loop starting and finishing at Suffolk Running Centre’s campsite, featuring 21.1 kilometers (or approximately 13.1 miles) with an elevation gain of 213 meters over rolling terrain reaching up to 109 meters high and down to 49 meters low. This route is designed so that half marathon runners complete one loop while full marathoners take on two loops, and ultra-marathon participants will extend their journey by adding extra mileage beyond the second loop.
For those opting for shorter distances like 5k or 10k, a dedicated turnpoint ensures they can enjoy a taste of this challenging route before retracing their steps back to the starting point. A downloadable GPX file from the "course" tab provides detailed guidance and allows runners to familiarize themselves with every twist and turn ahead.
Each day brings unique challenges as participants move through various routes, each offering its own set of scenery and terrain. Whether you're running on Day Eight or any other day in this series, expect well-organized support from the Race HQ/Base Camp where water stations are available for refueling throughout your run.
Participants will also receive a bespoke medal upon completion at Suffolk Running Centre’s base camp, celebrating their achievement with pride and camaraderie among fellow runners.
Please note that to minimize waste during these events, participants should bring reusable bottles or cups for hydration purposes. Additionally, dogs and buggies are not allowed on the route due to safety considerations along open roads, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone involved.
For those unable to join in person but still wish to participate virtually, visit Zig Zag Running’s website under their shop section where you can find virtual entry options as well.
This event promises an immersive and rewarding running experience with scenic routes that cater to all levels of runners. Don’t miss out on the chance to push your limits while enjoying the beauty of Suffolk's landscapes during The Great Barrow Challenge at Suffolk Running Centre.
