Great Hucklow Fell Race

The Great Hucklow Fell Race is an enduring community tradition that has been captivating runners since time immemorial. From there, the challenge intensifies as runners ascend towards Abney Moor and its highest point, passing the iconic Abney Moor trig point on Durham Edge where they can legally "bag" a unique private landmark known locally as 'Ethel'. The route then descends into Bretton Clough, notorious for its muddy terrain and challenging footing. After navigating through the bumps and hillocks of the clough, participants will climb out towards Abney Grange before a final push over fields leads them back into woodland where they’ll encounter slippy gravel on steep tarmac near the finish line. The race concludes at Hucklow School, mirroring its origins as an event deeply rooted in community spirit.
