Great Links Tor Flyer 2026 - Fell Race Set against the stunning backdrop of Dartmoor, the Great Links Tor Flyer offers runners an unforgettable evening experience on Wednesday, August 19th. Entries will open online on July 7th for this exciting event that promises breathtaking views and challenging terrain. The race route spans a spectacular 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) with significant elevation changes, making it one of Dartmoor's premier off-road courses. Starting and finishing at the Fox and Hounds Hotel near Bridestow/Lydford, this fell race is part of the Dartmoor Fell Series and includes junior races for younger participants. The senior event begins its ascent to Great Nodden Tor before descending via a marked path through the valley's tin workings towards Little Links Tor. The course continues with a climb up to Great Links Tor where runners will find a checkpoint, followed by an exhilarating descent to Arms Tor. From there, it’s a contouring route to Brat Tor and another fast descent back down to the finish line at Fox and Hounds Hotel. The race is limited to 150 competitors, with entries priced at £6.00 plus a booking fee of 50p for adults aged 16 years or older. Under-20s can compete in the senior event but pay just £3.00 entry on the same terms. Junior races are free and open only to those registered on race day. Competitors should be prepared with mandatory safety equipment, including a whistle, hat, headtorch, and light rainproof top due to Dartmoor's unpredictable weather conditions. The course is partially marked for senior runners, requiring careful navigation through the moors. Junior races will have fully marked routes and marshals on hand to guide participants. Race day activities kick off with briefings at 18:35 (seniors) and 17:55 (juniors), followed by starts at 18:45 for seniors and 18:00/18:05 for juniors. Spectators are encouraged to climb the first hill for an incredible view of runners as they make their way up Great Nodden Tor. After crossing the finish line, participants can enjoy refreshments in the pub at Fox and Hounds Hotel or outside on sunny days. Prize presentations will take place around 20:15 PM for senior race winners and age group categories. This event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA) and supported by North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, ensuring a safe yet thrilling experience for all runners. For those interested in volunteering as marshals or seeking further information, please contact SW Fellrunners via their Facebook page. With record-breaking times set recently—Ben Perry's 36:55 (male) and Charlotte Walker’s 43:57 (female)—the Great Links Tor Flyer promises to be a memorable race for both seasoned runners and newcomers alike. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore Dartmoor's rugged beauty under the evening sky. Entries are now open, so secure your spot early as spaces will fill up quickly!
