Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of North Central Illinois this September by participating in the Sixth Annual Grist Mill Grind, an adventure that challenges even the most seasoned runners. This technical trail race takes place at Franklin Creek State Natural Area—a hidden gem featuring limestone bluffs, lush forest canopies, and serene springs. Runners will face a variety of terrains including steep ravines, rolling hills with approximately 100 feet elevation gain per mile, and several creek crossings—five for the 10K route and two for the 5K. The course also includes stretches of gravel roads that offer runners an opportunity to pick up their pace. The race begins early on Saturday, September 5th, at 8:00 a.m., with check-in starting from 7:00-7:45 a.m. at Hausen Knox Shelter within Franklin Creek State Natural Area. Participants can sign up until July 31st for $25 or opt to register later for $35; race-day registration will cost $45. Water stations are available at the start/finish and mid-way point, but runners should bring their own reusable cups to minimize environmental impact. All proceeds from this event go directly to supporting the Franklin Creek Conservation Association (FCCA), which works tirelessly on park programs, expansion, and improvements. To celebrate your achievement, custom awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in both 5K and 10K categories as well as ruck participants. T-shirts are available for purchase and guaranteed if you sign up before August 15th. Don't miss this chance to test your limits while enjoying one of Illinois' most picturesque natural settings. The Grist Mill Grind promises an unforgettable adventure on the trails. Join us and become a part of something truly special in North Central Illinois.
