Race Description

Join us for the Sixth annual Grist Mill Grind 5K/10K Adventure, an event that runners will testify is one of the most challenging 5K/10K courses in the area. You can Run, Walk, or Ruck this event to set your own level of enjoyment as you traverse through ravines, bluffs, creek crossings (5 for the 10K, 2 for the 5K), and a little bit of gravel road to open the throttle. Franklin Creek State Natural Area our host is a beautiful little gem of a park in North Central Illinois dotted with limestone bluffs, springs, and forested canopy. You will really come away impressed. So don't miss out. Event Date: Saturday, September 5th, 2026 Time: 8:00 a.m.* - 12:00 p.m. Check-in: 7:00-7:45 a.m. at the Hausen Knox Shelter. Signup: 9/1/2025 – 7/31/2026 $25.00 After: 7/31/2026 $35.00 Raceday: $45.00 $20/T-Shirt (Registration before 8/15 guarantees a Shirt) *Online registration closes at noon on Friday 9/4/2026. This is a technical trail race at the Franklin Creek State Parks Natural Area. Runners follow trails up and down multiple hills with an elevation gain of ~100ft./Mile You will get your feet wet as you cross the Franklin Creek (5 times for the 10K, 2 times for the 5K) on your way to the finish. A unique race experience we're sure you'll be proud to complete. Drinking water will be available at the Start/Finish and Sunday shelter (Mid race point for the 10K). Please bring your own disposable cup or bladder, no cups will be provided to minimize environmental impact. All proceeds go to the Franklin Creek Conservation Association (FCCA) to help fund park programs, park expansion, and park improvements. Custom Awards will be presented to the Top 3 Male and Female runners, (5K/10K) and Ruckers (5K/10K). T-Shirts are available for purchase to all participants wishing to commemorate the event and are guaranteed if signed up before 8/15/2026. Check In on Race day will be at the race site (Hausen Knox Shelter) 7am-7:45am.
