HADRIANS WALL HALF MARATHON WALK 2026

Experience the awe-inspiring beauty and rich history of Hadrian’s Wall at the 6th edition of the Hadrian's Wall Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, October 10th (walkers) and Sunday, October 11th (runners), in 2026. This event promises an unforgettable journey through one of Britain’s most historic landscapes.
The race begins at Housesteads Roman Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the Military Road near Hexham. Participants will follow the iconic Hadrian's Wall Trail Path for six miles before descending to Newbrough and passing through lush woodland until they reach the Tyne Riverside Trail Path. The final five miles are flat as runners make their way into Hexham’s heart, finishing at Tyne Green Country Park.
This A-to-B event requires participants to either book a shuttle bus or arrange transportation to Housesteads Roman Fort for the start of the race. Bag drop services will be available at registration, and all bags will be transported directly to the finish line in Tyne Green Country Park.
For those who wish to bring their canine companions along, one well-controlled dog per person is permitted on a lead throughout the event. Staggered starts between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM ensure that participants set off in groups of approximately 75-100 people each, minimizing congestion around this historic site.
Timing for all runners will be provided by Timing Up North with live chip-timing technology, offering precise results. Upon crossing the finish line at Tyne Green Country Park, every participant receives an event t-shirt and a medal to commemorate their achievement along with a snack.
Public car parking is available in Hexham town center; organizers encourage participants to share rides where possible to reduce traffic congestion around the race venues.
This unique running experience combines the challenge of endurance sports with the beauty of Hadrian’s Wall, offering breathtaking views and an immersive journey through Roman history. The finish line at Tyne Green Country Park awaits those who embark on this historic trail adventure.
Additionally, all participants have the opportunity to support Heel & Toe Children's Charity by making a donation during their registration process. This local organization provides essential therapy and support for children with physical disabilities and complex needs in the North East of England, relying entirely on community donations due to lack of government funding.
