Welcome to the Hell Hole Hundred Ultra Race, an unparalleled endurance challenge set amidst the lush swamps of South Carolina's Francis Marion National Forest. Organized by Palmetto Ultras and sponsored by The Foot Store, this race offers runners a range of distances from 10k to the grueling 100-mile event, catering to all levels of experience. The Hell Hole Hundred takes place in June when temperatures soar, making it an intense test for even the most seasoned ultrarunners. Nestled within the Jericho Horse Trail, this race is renowned for its picturesque yet unforgiving terrain. The trail consists primarily of dirt fire roads and single-track paths, providing a flat but challenging course that can be taxing in the heat. Packet pickup will take place at The Foot Store on Friday before the event or at the start/finish line on Saturday morning. Aid stations are strategically located throughout the race route to support runners with essential supplies including water, sports drinks, snacks like gummy bears and sour patch kids, as well as hot meals for refueling. The main aid station near the start/finish line offers a variety of food options to help runners maintain their energy levels during long distances. Additional aid stations along the course provide similar provisions, ensuring that participants have everything they need to push through challenging conditions. As part of Palmetto Ultras' Trailblazers program, female athletes who sign up for 50 or 100-mile races can receive a discount code to share with another runner. Youth runners aged 14 and under are also eligible for discounts upon request via email. The race is part of the Swamp Series, which includes three events in Francis Marion Forest: Frozen, Swamp Fox, and Hell Hole Hundred. Participants who complete all distances across these races will be vying for titles like King or Queen of the swamp based on accumulated miles and fastest times. Start times vary depending on distance: - 100 Milers begin at 7 PM on Friday. - 25k starts Saturday morning at 7 AM, followed by the 50k at 7:05 AM, and the 50-mile race at 7:10 AM. Night races for shorter distances start later in the evening. Cutoff times are set to ensure safety: - 6 hours for the day and night 25k options, - 12 hours for the 50k, - 19 hours for the 50-mile race, - 33 hours for the 100-mile event. Participants receive swag such as ice bandanas to help combat the heat, along with custom wooden coasters upon completion. Top three male and female finishers in each distance earn trophies. The Hell Hole Hundred is a must-do challenge for serious ultrarunners seeking an unforgettable race experience amidst stunning yet demanding terrain.
