Super Saturday The weekend kicks off with Super Saturday events designed to cater to all ages and fitness levels. Participants can choose from three engaging options: - Gundy Inferno: A 5k or 10K charity run through the streets of Goondiwindi, offering runners a chance to support local causes while pushing their limits. - Firestarter Triathlon: For those aged 12 and up, this Super Sprint event includes a swim in the crisp waters followed by an exhilarating bike ride and culminates with a short run. It's perfect for beginners looking to dip their toes into multisport racing. - Hell Kids Triathlon: Tailored for young athletes between ages 6 and 11 years old, this mini triathlon encourages kids to take on the challenge of swimming, biking, and running in an environment that is both fun and supportive. HELL OF THE WEST The centerpiece event of the weekend is undoubtedly the Hell of the West, a long course triathlon celebrated for its grueling route. This 36-year-old tradition has earned a reputation as one of Queensland's toughest races. The race consists of: - 2km Swim: Participants start in refreshing waters before transitioning to their bikes. - 80km Bike Ride: Cyclists face challenging terrain and wind conditions, making this segment both physically demanding and mentally taxing. - 20km Run: Concluding the event is a run that takes competitors through varied landscapes, testing endurance and resilience. The Hell of the West offers individual categories including Clydesdale (100kg+ for men) and Athena (75kg+ for women), as well as team divisions. Additionally, there's an Aquabike category which includes only swimming and biking segments. This iconic race is also a qualifier for the Queensland Long Course Championships, though it excludes Clydesdale and Athena categories from this title.
