Heritage Days Fun Run sponsored by the Mount Vernon Alumni Association

The Heritage Days Fun Run sponsored by the Mount Vernon Alumni Association returns to Mt Vernon in Iowa on July 10th at 8:00 p.m., offering a 4K for adults and a Kids K for younger runners.
Set against the backdrop of the school district properties, this event provides a welcoming atmosphere. On race morning, participants will find themselves surrounded by familiar landmarks such as the football field where both start and finish lines are situated. The course is known to be relatively flat, making it accessible for all skill levels while staying away from the Mount Vernon hills.
Since its inception in 2014, this event has grown significantly, drawing hundreds of participants each year who come together not just as runners but also as supporters of local causes and traditions. Proceeds go towards scholarships for underprivileged students, fostering a sense of community pride and continuity that makes this race particularly meaningful to the locals.
The course venue is primarily hard and dry surface with slight variations due to terrain features typical in school properties. Runners will start on the football field and make their way through the district grounds before finishing at the same location, providing a looped route ideal for those looking to stretch out or catch up after the initial sprint. Along the course, there are no formal aid stations but runners can expect access to cold beverages and ice cream upon crossing the finish line.
