Hidden Valley Cyclocross returns to New Haven, offering an exhilarating race experience for both seasoned cyclists and newcomers. This year, organizers have expanded the course and introduced several exciting changes, ensuring a fresh challenge awaits racers on Forbes Bluff. Located between Fort Hale Park and Pardee Seawall, this hidden gem of a meadow provides a unique setting with diverse terrain. Expect sharp turns, challenging climbs, and fast descents that will test your skills to the limit. The course features wide staircases for those who prefer not to ride them, adding an element of choice and strategy. Registration opens at 7:30 AM in the big pavilion, offering day-of registration for $60 per race or $20 if you plan on competing in both events. Bibs can be picked up here, so make sure to bring your ID. Parking is limited near Woodward Avenue but ample options are available throughout New Haven. The south side of Woodward and adjacent streets provide street parking with signs clearly indicating where it’s allowed. East Shore Park offers free warm-up areas for those looking to get a leg up before the race starts. Please be mindful of handicapped spaces, fire hydrants, and no-parking zones. The course itself is marked by blue lines on the map, with specific sections highlighted as "THE ASCENT," "THE BATTLESWAMP," and "THE GAUNTLET." These areas will challenge you physically and mentally, while the final descent into THE PARTY ZONE promises a thrilling finish. The race takes place next to an active military/Coast Guard station; please adhere strictly to all posted signs. Food options are plentiful with @hachiroku_newhaven setting up at Hidden Valley CX. Enjoy burgers, okonomiyaki, and onigiri from their special menu, perfect for post-ride recovery or pre-race fueling. Their four restaurants across New Haven offer a variety of flavors to satisfy any craving. Coffee enthusiasts can visit Minnow’s pop-up stand, serving seasonal single-origin beans and classic espresso drinks at Deep River Home every Saturday. Prizes are up for grabs in the form of a bottle of Ranch dressing for first place winners, with additional pizza-themed podium prizes returning. Cash awards will be given to top finishers based on race category size, ensuring competitive yet fair competition.
