High Bridge Challenge

Two races. One historic bridge. Your chance to conquer both the Freight Train (May 9) and the Night Train (June 14) on the iconic High Bridge Trail State Park in Farmville, Virginia. Choose your combo: 26k (Night Train 5k + Freight Train Half), Marathon (Night Train Half + Freight Train Half), 100k (Night Train 50k + Freight Train 50k), or 150k (Night Train 50k + Freight Train 100k). Complete both and earn a handcrafted award — and lifetime trail cred.

The Races:

• Freight Train (May 9, 2026) — longer distances, fast, flat course. Cross the High Bridge twice. Winter/spring conditions (chill possible).
• Night Train (June 14, 2026) — sunset start. Run under a sky filled with fireflies and moonlight. Summer heat can be real. Finish on the iconic bridge.
• Both races are held on the High Bridge Trail — a converted rail trail that's flat, fast, and runner‑friendly.
• The High Bridge itself is a 2,400‑foot long, 125‑foot high historic structure built in 1854 for the South Side Railroad. Runners cross it multiple times depending on distance.

• Entry to both Freight Train and Night Train races (your chosen distances)

Course Highlights:

• High Bridge Trail State Park — 31 miles of crushed stone surface, virtually flat
• Scenic views of the Appomattox River, farmland, and forests
• The High Bridge itself: 2,400 feet long, 125 feet high, built in 1854 — a Virginia landmark
• Freight Train: longer distances, cross the bridge twice
• Night Train: sunset start — run into twilight, then under moonlight. Fireflies in June.
• Perfect for personal bests on the flat rail‑trail surface

Pricing (per combo, not per race):

• 26k Combo: $105 (before April 1) / $130 (after)
• Marathon Combo: $135 / $160
• 100k Combo: $175 / $200
• 150k Combo: $240 / $265

Logistics:

• Registration closes Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.
• Start times for each distance vary — check event website for specific wave assignments.
• Parking available at designated lots near the trailhead (arrive early — limited spaces).
• No dogs allowed on the trail (state park regulations).
• Strollers not recommended on crushed stone surface (but possible for shorter distances — check with organizer).
• Wheelchair accessible — the crushed stone surface is firm and flat; contact organizer for specific needs.
• No refunds? Check event policy — typically no refunds for ultra/trail events.

• Proceeds support Virginia Adventures' mission to bring top‑notch trail races to Central Virginia.
• Volunteer opportunities available — course marshals, aid station crews, setup/breakdown.
