Hillfort Hustle 10 mile and 5 mile Trail Races

Croft Ambrey Running Club is excited to present The Hillfort Hustle, returning on Sunday, July 19th, 2026. This year's edition features both a challenging 10-mile race and a more accessible 5-mile option, with staggered start times at 10:00 AM for the full distance and 10:30 AM for the half hustle to ensure smooth running conditions.
The event takes place in picturesque Aymestrey, Herefordshire. Runners will enjoy a scenic route that winds through North Herefordshire's countryside, showcasing its rolling hills, charming villages, and historic sites. The highlight of the course is undoubtedly the climb up to Croft Ambrey Hillfort, an Iron Age site offering breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape.
Starting opposite Riverside Inn in Aymestrey, participants will pass by Leinthall Earls before entering the private Gatley Estate with its beautifully maintained grounds. After conquering the hill fort ascent and capturing panoramic vistas from atop, runners descend back towards the finish line where they can enjoy refreshments at a nearby bar or indulge in some post-race fare.
Race day logistics are straightforward:
- Registration opens at 8:30 AM.
- Race numbers and timing chips can be picked up until 9:45 AM for the full distance and 10:15 AM for the half hustle.
- On-the-day entries will cost £25 for the 10-mile race and £20 for the 5-mile route, available on a first-come-first-served basis before 9:30 AM.
The event also accommodates last-minute changes:
- Runners can switch between distances at no charge or pay £5 to upgrade from half hustle to full distance.
- Junior runners (15 years and under) have their own race, with entry costing £3 on the day. Parents are welcome to join them for support.
Amenities include toilets near the start/finish area but without changing facilities. The course features water stations at key points along both routes, adhering to a cup-free policy to minimize waste.
