The Holcomb Valley: Big Bear Peaks & Pines takes place on June 12-14, 2026, in Big Bear Lake, California. This 30th annual event now features a TransRockies-style 3-day stage race plus single-day distances including a Vertical Stage, 33 Mile, 15 Mile, 9 Mile, and 5 Mile on the ancestral lands of the Serrano people in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Event Logistics & Participant Information:

Registration Opens: January 28, 2026, at 8:00 AM Pacific Time. Early bird pricing until March 1. Expected to sell out.
Registration Deadline: Closes Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT.
Location: Big Bear Lake, California. Courses subject to USFS final approval.
Course Update: Due to ongoing US Forest Service permitting challenges, course changes may be made to the 30-year legacy course on the PCT. Organizers working hard to preserve legacy while delivering an exceptional experience.
Course Maps: Friday Vertical Stage map available on CalTopo. Saturday and Sunday maps coming soon.
Hard Cut-offs: 33 Mile closes at 5:30 PM with 3 interim cutoffs TBD. 15 Mile closes at 4:30 PM with 2 interim cutoffs TBD. 9 Mile and 5 Mile close at 12:30 PM.
Refund Policy: No refunds or transfers. 1-day race participants can defer for 1 year by emailing before April 1.
Cancellation Policy: No guaranteed refunds for act of God, fire, severe weather, permit denial, or public safety issues. Refund percentage calculated to cover unrecoverable expenses.
Volunteers: Earn race credits and free race entries for future events. Fill out volunteer form for more information.

Swag, Awards & History:

Event History: Celebrating 30 years. Established by Gary & Pam Kalina in 1997. After 15 years, Team Big Bear took over in 2012. From 2023, Tom Spiegel and Team Big Bear entrusted continuation to Susie Schmelzer & Harald Zundel of Team Kodiak.
Land Acknowledgement: The trails wind through ancestral lands of the Serrano people, the Yuhaviatam (People of the Pines), traditional stewards of this mountain valley for thousands of years. Organizers are honored to run in this sacred space and committed to respecting the land and its enduring history.
Scenic Setting: Big Bear Valley in the San Bernardino Mountains — some of the best trail running in Southern California.
Legacy: Holcomb Valley Trail Run established because Gary Kalina realized the best trail running in SoCal was right here in Big Bear.
