Nestled in the heart of Holstebro, Denmark, the annual Holstebro Triathlon & Duathlon offers an invigorating challenge for athletes from all backgrounds. Traditionally held on Ascension Day, this year’s edition will take place on Thursday, May 6th, 2027, welcoming participants to experience a blend of swimming, cycling, and running in the picturesque Danish setting.
The event features three main disciplines: Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquabike. Each offers its unique set of challenges designed for both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike. Participants can also opt for relay teams if they prefer team-based competition or simply want to share the experience with friends.
For triathletes, the course includes a 650-meter swim in Holstebro’s indoor pool followed by an exhilarating 30-kilometer bike ride through scenic countryside and city streets. The day concludes with a run along the historic streets of Holstebro for a total distance of seven kilometers.
Duathletes will start their journey with a three-kilometer run, transition to cycling for the same challenging 30-kilometer route as triathlon participants, followed by another vigorous seven-kilometer run.
Aquabikers face only the swimming and biking legs, testing endurance without the final running segment.
The event is meticulously organized within Holstebro’s city limits, ensuring convenient access to facilities such as parking areas near transition zones (T1 and T2), which are combined for ease of movement. Participants will enjoy a warm welcome at the start line with pre-race briefings and introductions by race officials before diving into their respective disciplines.
Swimmers take off in heats starting from 10:50 AM, while duathletes and aquabikers begin simultaneously around 11:00 AM. Cyclists will navigate a mix of urban roads and rural paths, adhering to the “ten-meter rule” for safety. The running route winds through Holstebro’s charming streets, offering runners a chance to soak in local culture.
Race day amenities include ample refreshments at hydration stations along the course, ensuring participants remain fueled throughout their endeavors. Upon finishing, athletes will be greeted with cheering crowds and volunteers ready to guide them towards post-race celebrations complete with snacks and drinks.
