Hospiscare Does Dartmoor: A Day of Challenges and Charitable Triumphs (Entries Open November 14th)
Join Hospiscare for the second year running as they invite local businesses to take on an unforgettable challenge across the wild landscapes of Dartmoor. On September 5, 2026, teams will embark on a 30-kilometer trek starting at Postbridge and finishing in Ivybridge.
This event is more than just a race; it’s a journey through rugged terrain that tests your limits while fostering teamwork, communication, and trust among participants. The route winds its way across Bellever Tor, past the West Dart stepping stones, Ryder's Hill, and over a picturesque clapper bridge spanning the upper Avon River. As you progress, you'll encounter stunning views of the Erme Valley and beyond to the sea.
Participants can download maps for use with Outdoor Active or opt for traditional Ordnance Survey OL28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) maps. A GPX file will also be provided for GPS enthusiasts. Detailed information on mandatory and suggested equipment is included in the participant handbook from Climb South West.
Teams have a unique opportunity to nominate their own Team Leader and Deputy who can attend a pre-event briefing with organizers (date TBC). Cut-off times at checkpoints are generous, allowing ample time to complete the course, though it remains competitive against other teams. Shuttle transport will be available for those needing assistance reaching the finish line.
The challenge is designed to be accessible for anyone in good walking or running condition, supported by experienced Mountain Leaders who serve as mobile marshals and assist with route guidance between checkpoints. You can choose to walk alongside them if you wish but are not obligated to do so.
Parking is free at Ivybridge Community College near the finish line, while an additional fee covers parking closer to Postbridge along with a shuttle service from there. Your entry includes GPS tracker hire for tracking your progress throughout the day.
