Hour of Power

On September 19, the highly anticipated Hour of Power returns as the grand finale of the West German Speed Skating Cup at Dortmund's iconic ice rink, known locally as "Die Niere." Whether you're an avid speed skater or a fitness enthusiast looking to push your limits for an hour, this event promises thrilling competition and personal achievement. Participants can aim to complete as many laps as possible in that time frame.
The day is packed with various events designed to cater to all skill levels. For those new to the sport, there's an introductory training session followed by a 30-minute beginner race. More seasoned skaters will enjoy either the three-event competition featuring parcourse, sprint, and long-distance races for students from D through A categories or the two-event challenge with one-lap sprints and endurance-focused 60-minute races starting at the Kadette level (born in or after 2013).
Competitors aiming to make an impact on the West German Speed Skating Cup standings should take note: only the long-distance race counts towards the WSC ranking, making strategic planning essential. It's important for participants to register properly if they wish to compete solely within this category and not participate in any other events that day.
The event kicks off with student races at 10 AM, followed by one-lap sprints, beginner training sessions, and a 30-minute race starting from 1 PM. The main attraction—the 60-minute WSC race—begins at 4 PM, offering an exhilarating test of endurance on the smooth ice surface.
Skaters should be aware that outside competition hours, the track is not open for inline skating activities to ensure safety and fairness during races.
