Twin Cities In Motion collaborates with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to present an enriching summer running and wellness initiative for Native youth. This program is part of the IndigeFit Kids Campaign, which aims to enhance health outcomes within Indigenous communities through culturally relevant activities.
The curriculum was developed in close consultation with community leaders who are passionate about bridging cultural heritage and physical fitness. Participants engage in a variety of activities that blend traditional teachings with modern running techniques, fostering both personal growth and communal support.
Throughout the summer months, young runners will participate in weekly sessions designed to build endurance and resilience while learning about their rich cultural backgrounds. These sessions offer an inclusive space where youth can connect with peers and elders from various Native communities.
The program culminates during Twin Cities Marathon Weekend when participants showcase their hard work through meaningful events that celebrate their achievements. This event not only highlights the success of individual runners but also brings attention to health disparities faced by Indigenous populations, promoting a broader conversation around community well-being and cultural preservation.
