Ingleborough Mountain Race

The Ingleborough Mountain Race, an iconic fixture of Yorkshire Dales racing since 1939, is set to take place as part of Ingleton's annual Gala day celebrations. This challenging race covers a distance of 11 kilometers with nearly 600 meters of elevation gain, offering runners the chance to conquer one of England’s most impressive hills.
The event starts promptly at 2:30 PM from the sports field adjacent to the Ingleton Community Centre (Grid Ref. 695730). Participants can collect their race numbers inside the community centre before setting off on a route that winds through the heart of Ingleton, then turns onto Hawes Road for a brief stretch before veering into the rugged countryside.
The course takes runners up the public footpath to the summit of Ingleborough (Grid Ref. 742745), where stunning views await those who reach the peak. Runners will retrace their steps along this path back down to the village, finishing in the same spot they began—next to the community centre.
Competitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the course ahead of time as it is open for inspection prior to race day. The route follows a public footpath that allows runners to establish optimal lines and strategies leading up to the event start.
Entry into the Ingleborough Mountain Race can be secured online or on race day if spaces remain, but note there’s an entry limit of 250 participants. Entry fees are non-refundable, so it's important for entrants to ensure they're committed before signing up.
