The Ingleton Three Counties Fell Race, making its return for 2026 after a successful debut the previous year, invites runners to explore the rugged beauty of Yorkshire's Dales. This challenging fell race begins and ends in the picturesque village of Ingleton, tracing an intricate route that weaves through three distinct counties: Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Cumbria. Covering 31.5 kilometers with a daunting elevation gain of 1,580 meters, this A-Long event is meticulously planned to challenge even the most seasoned fell runners. The race starts at Mealbank Hall (SD 694 734), where participants will initially run along a short stretch of road before venturing into more rugged terrain. The course begins with a climb up towards Kingsdale, leading runners through rough open fells and boggy landscapes. After navigating the first control point at Gragareth, competitors must cross a boundary wall to enter Cumbria. From there, it's an arduous ascent to Whernside trigpoint, followed by a wild descent down Whernside’s eastern slopes. Ribblehead is the next checkpoint on this scenic route, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks before the race continues through some of Yorkshire Dales' finest high-level running terrain. The final leg sees runners traverse Park Fell and familiar landmarks en route back to Ingleton. Participants must be well-versed in navigating challenging fell conditions and prepared for all types of weather, as this event takes place across varied terrains with limited open access areas. No recce runs are permitted along the course to ensure fairness and safety.
