Inverclyde Leisure Aquathlon - Team, Adult and Junior Aquathlon Events
About the Event
On Sunday, August 23rd, 2026, the Gourock Aquathlon promises an exhilarating day of competition along the picturesque coastline and waterside locales. This comprehensive race offers three distinct categories to cater to a variety of participants: Team Aquathlon for two-person teams, Adult Aquathlon for individuals aged eighteen and above, and Junior Aquathlon exclusively for athletes between ten and seventeen years old. The event kicks off with the registration process at 8:30 AM sharp, followed by briefings that provide crucial race information. Teams participating in the team aquathlon will face a rigorous challenge starting from 9:30 AM. This includes swimming half a mile (24 lengths) before transitioning to a grueling five-kilometer run along scenic coastal paths leading to McInroy's Point, where they must turn around and head back to Gourock Pool. Individual adult participants will compete in four heats throughout the morning with registration times beginning at 9:15 AM. Each heat follows the same course as the team event but is tailored for solo competitors aiming to push their limits both in water and on land. The first heat starts promptly at 10:15 AM, offering a perfect opportunity for athletes to showcase their endurance. For young athletes aged ten through seventeen, there's an exciting junior aquathlon scheduled from 12:45 PM onwards. This event includes swimming a quarter mile (twelve lengths) and running three kilometers along the coastline to Gourock Yacht Club before returning to the pool. The registration for this group begins at noon. Entry fees vary based on membership status with Inverclyde Leisure, ranging from £22 to £54 per participant or team depending on their affiliation. Early bird pricing is available until Sunday, August 9th, and spots are limited on a first-come-first-served basis. It's important for all competitors to check in via email no later than Friday, August 21st, to receive heat assignments. Competitors should be aware that there’s a strict forty-five-minute swim time cap enforced by race officials. This rule ensures smooth transitions between heats and maintains the integrity of the event schedule. Participants are advised to seek professional medical advice if they have any health concerns before signing up for this challenging competition. The day concludes with prize giving at 2:00 PM, rewarding top finishers across all categories. Spectators can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with enthusiasm from competitors and supporters alike as everyone celebrates the spirit of athleticism and community engagement.
