Irish Hills Gravel Weekend with Paige Onweller - Sunday Ride
About the Event
Experience the beauty of Michigan's Irish Hills during our upcoming Gravel Weekend, set for July 18-19. This weekend is crafted to cater to both newcomers and seasoned riders alike, ensuring an enriching experience through expert guidance. On Saturday morning, join us at River and Rail Farmers Market (The Armory) in Jackson from 9:00 AM. The day kicks off with introductions and a tire pressure Q&A session before diving into a focused on-bike skills clinic. This workshop will cover essential topics such as body position for cornering and descending, hand and foot positioning, and techniques to build confidence on loose terrain like gravel. A closed circuit practice area is provided to hone pace-line riding and group ride etiquette. After the skills training, participants embark on a 10-mile no-drop ride designed to put newly acquired knowledge into practical use. The route will offer scenic views of Southern Michigan's picturesque landscapes while reinforcing safety practices in group settings. Following this, enjoy an informal meet & greet at Ogma Brewing Co., where you can mingle with cycling community leaders Paige Onweller and Maxine Bratus. This gathering serves as a platform to discuss strategies for gravel riding, training tips, equipment selection, bike fit considerations, and ways to boost female participation in the sport. On Sunday, explore Irish Hills Gravel Group Rides at Swain Memorial Park in Brooklyn from 9:00 AM. Two distinct pace groups cater to various skill levels—our faster group targets a 17-20 mph average speed while maintaining smooth teamwork rather than competitive racing. For those seeking a more relaxed experience or needing support, Rolling Toast Group Ride offers an alternative route closer to downtown. Post-ride, riders are encouraged to continue the camaraderie at Atlas Restaurant & Bar in Brooklyn for brunch and further discussions about their experiences. Women participating in this event will receive exclusive benefits: 50% off registration codes for future Irish Hills Gravel events, as well as access to a monthly webinar series with Paige Onweller. These webinars cover essential topics such as equipment selection, training plans, nutrition advice, race preparation tips, and general gravel riding insights. Our goal is clear—create an inclusive environment that empowers more women to confidently explore the thrilling world of off-road cycling in Michigan's stunning Irish Hills.

About Brooklyn
Learn more about the host city, Brooklyn.
Brooklyn, the "Borough of Homes and Churches," is one of the five boroughs of New York City. It used to be a separate city, and still feels much like one. It has about 2.5 million inhabitants. If separated from the rest of New York City, Brooklyn would be the 4th most populous American city.
