IRONMAN Cairns

Palm‑lined white sand beach start. Completely closed coastal highway with Great Barrier Reef views. Flat run down the main strip of Cairns lined with cheering crowds and pumping music. IRONMAN Cairns returns on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Tropical North Queensland — the only place on earth where two UNESCO World Heritage areas meet (the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest). This is a 2026 IRONMAN World Championship qualifier.

The Course:

• Swim (3.8 km) — One loop in the Coral Sea from the Cairns Esplanade. Average water temp 23°C (74°F). Clear, tropical ocean swim with a palm‑tree‑lined beach start.
• Bike (180 km) — Completely closed coastal highway. Rolling terrain with breathtaking views of the Great Barrier Reef. Riders travel north through sugarcane fields, eucalyptus forests, and small coastal towns. One of the world's most stunning bike courses. Aid stations every 20‑30 km with water, sports drink, gels, fruit, and toilets.
• Run (42.2 km) — Flat, fast two‑loop course along the Cairns Esplanade. Shaded in sections. Aid stations every 2 km (2.5 km on the first half). Ice, sponges, water, sports drink, cola, gels, fruit, and hot food at certain stations. The finish line is on the Esplanade with a crowd that grows from sunrise to midnight. The famous "four words" await — "You are an IRONMAN."

• High air temperature: 28°C (82°F) • Low: 18°C (65°F)
• Humidity typical for tropical Queensland — prepare for heat and sweat
• Mid‑winter escape from the southern hemisphere's cooler climates
