Island Cat ~ Wedding on the Water

Experience the enchanting beauty of Madeline Island during the annual Wedding on the Water festival from September 11th to 13th, 2026. This year marks the fifth edition of Island Cat and celebrates Evan and Lilah's love story with a unique blend of adventure and romance.
The journey begins at Bayfield, Wisconsin, where you can board one of the Madeline Island Ferry Line boats running every half-hour from 10 AM to 6 PM, with additional evening departures on select days. The ferry ride is just 2.5 miles long but takes approximately 25 minutes. Vehicles are allowed and tickets are first come, first served; visit www.madferry.com for the most up-to-date schedule.
For your stay, pack as if you were tent camping—bring food, utensils, a reusable cup, and any other essentials. Darlings Grocery is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, offering provisions throughout your adventure. A few restaurants are also available on the island for those seeking more than just camp fare.
Bike lights, helmets, and locks are mandatory. If you plan to swim, bring appropriate gear as temperatures may still be pleasant. Be prepared for unexpected weather changes in Lake Superior; always check forecasts before setting out.
Camping is free but requires respect—pack-in, pack-out policies apply. Set up camp at the public lot located at 868 Whitefish St., Bayfield, WI 54814. For those camping on South Shore House property, follow the directions from South Shore Rd. across Islewood Rd. to your designated camp pad.
South Shore House offers a rustic setting with no electric hookups and requires reservations for van setups; contact organizers directly if you need space. Biff’s provides restrooms and potable water, but bring your own bug spray as there are no electric lights. Dogs are not permitted due to the presence of free-ranging ducks.
The weekend kicks off on Friday evening at 5 PM with introductions, a safety meeting, and an overview of the upcoming events. At sunset (around 6:00 PM), the Capser Capsized Gravel Criterium begins; start from the Capser West Trailhead across Freak Farm. Bring your lights for this critty cross-style race.
Join Evan and Lilah at their open house and bonfire on Friday evening, complete with treats like a roller dog cart and cocktails in a camper sauna. The main event is Saturday’s Evan & Lilah Wedding on the Water from 9 AM to 12 PM, followed by an afterparty celebrating Island Cat’s tradition.
On Sunday, departures are flexible; stay as long as you wish for more adventures with fellow racers or simply relax at a nearby beach.
