Jailbreak Triathlon

About the Event

The Jailbreak Triathlon returns to Columbia, Tennessee on September 19th, combining a unique blend of canoeing, cycling, and running in an unconventional partner event that has been attracting athletes for over two decades.
Race day begins early at the Hanson Shelter located within Chickasaw Trace Park. Participants check-in between 6:30 and 8:00 AM, with transportation to the river parking area starting shortly after. The race officially kicks off around 9:15 AM when participants launch their canoes from near the Maury County Jail.
The event is deeply rooted in local tradition, having run for over twenty years now. Both relays and teams compete on the same day but are scored separately based on combined times or relay exchanges. The race supports a cause close to heart: it raises funds annually for community youth sports programs in Columbia, Tennessee. Over two decades of running, this event has become an integral part of the city's athletic calendar.
The course itself is varied and challenging, beginning with a 3.5-mile canoe ride along the Duck River near Maury County Jail before transitioning to cycling through Chickasaw Trace Park. Cyclists then navigate a dry trail surface for their run segment back at the park. All participants are required to wear life jackets provided by partnering rental companies during the canoe portion, which can take up to 40 minutes. Transition areas and aid stations along both bike and running segments ensure that athletes have everything they need throughout the race.
Weather on September mornings tends to be mild with temperatures averaging around 23 degrees Celsius, ranging from a low of about 17 to highs reaching near 28°C. Humidity levels typically hover at around 72%, and while there is an average chance of light rainfall amounting to roughly 4mm, the dry trail conditions remain favorable for running.
The Jailbreak Triathlon offers two options: a 2 Person Relay and a 2 Person Team event; both carry a fee of $140.00 per entry.
2 Person Relay
Start: 08:30:00  •  Fee: $140.00
2 Person Team
Start: 08:30:00  •  Fee: $140.00

Registration can be completed online at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=135072 with deadlines approaching fast as race day draws near in September. Bib pickup is available on-site during the morning hours before the event, and participants are reminded to bring their confirmation email or printout for check-in.
Start location details: 1419 New Hwy 7, Columbia, Tennessee. Age requirements vary by participant type but ensure that both team members can legally participate in a triathlon-style event according to state regulations. First-time attendees should familiarize themselves with the transition process outlined on race day and be prepared for water shoes or similar footwear during canoe segments.
The Jailbreak Triathlon in Columbia, Tennessee is an unparalleled opportunity to experience a unique blend of endurance sports while contributing to local youth programs. The combination of river paddling, cycling through scenic trails, and running back at Chickasaw Trace Park makes it one of the most distinctive races on any athlete's calendar.
