This year will be the 6th running of Joe's Night Run at The Hamptons! Joe's Night Run at The Hamptons is an all-night-running endurance event held on the cart paths at The Hamptons Golf Course in Hampton, VA. There are 11-hour and 5-hour options available both for running and rucking. There will also be a one-loop, 4.4-mile option. This is a "cart path only" event, meaning we'll be running only on the paved cart paths on a 4.4-mile loop. It's an old school, low-key event. We'll have lap counters (i.e., you yell out your bib number, we write it down). We will have a fully stocked aid station (primarily pre-packaged aid due to our location). This is a super easy event to self-crew, as you pass your car every single loop and will be able to crew directly out of your car. This is an excellent event both for those who want to gain experience running at night or for veteran runners training for a big fall race.
Parking begins at 5:30 pm. Check-in and bib pick up from 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm. Race brief at 6:45 pm. All race durations and distances start at 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 26th. The 5-hour duration concludes at midnight. The 11-hour duration concludes at 6:00 am on Sunday, September 27th. Fresh coffee and doughnuts will be provided for anyone who hangs out until 6:00 am. Late starts are available upon request to the race director.
The 4.4-mile loop is on the cart paths of The Hamptons Golf Course. The course starts and finishes in the parking lot in front of The Hamptons Clubhouse. The first section of the course is a counterclockwise loop around 9 holes of The Woods. The second section of the course is a clockwise loop around the 9 holes of The Links. The course will be well marked with glow sticks and turn signs. Runners will be allowed to make one shorter 2.4-mile loop around The Woods on their final lap. Those runners that need a few tenths of a mile to hit a milestone at the end will be permitted to do so on a marked path. This is a fun, yet challenging course that involves small hills that will prove to be a good challenge as you progress through the night. The cart path is enough to allow about 3 people to run next to each other. This is a deceiving course as the hills will “creep up on you” as the night progresses.
All finishers will receive a finisher's item and homemade medal. We'll acknowledge the top three women and men in each race category immediately after their event concludes. Winners receive bonus finisher items.
We will have a portable restroom rented for the event in the parking lot. There are portable restrooms available at two locations on course: between holes 5 and 6 on both The Woods and The Links. This is a manual loop count event. You will run up to the lap counters and call out your number. Details for logistics for counting laps will be included in your race brief email. The course will be set up so you will have your lap counted and then you can go to your car to crew. The parking lot is small and you will not have to "go out of your way" to get to your car for crewing. Please contact the race director for any specific setup questions. All runners are required to have a lighting device when running to illuminate the otherwise dark cart paths. The required weights for ruckers are 30 lbs for people 150 lbs or more, and 20 lbs for people under 150 lbs. Exceptions to the required rucking weights (e.g., wanting to carry more) can be made upon request to the race director.
