The Knobstone 50 Miler is an epic adventure along Indiana's longest footpath, the Knobstone Trail. Known for its challenging terrain and steep elevation changes, this trail has earned the nickname "The Little AT" due to its resemblance to sections of the Appalachian Mountains. The course stretches from Deam Lake State Park in Borden to Delaney Creek Park near Scottsburg, covering a distance of 50 miles with approximately 10,000 feet of elevation gain. Participants will embark on this journey through some of Indiana's most scenic backcountry landscapes, featuring steep climbs and sweeping vistas. The trail winds its way through dense forests, offering breathtaking views at every turn. With cut-off times strategically placed along the route to ensure safety and endurance testing, runners must navigate Elk Creek (32.8 miles), Oxley (38.2 miles), Spurgeon (44.1 miles), and finally reach the finish line by 2:00 AM. The race begins early on Saturday morning with a shuttle bus leaving Delaney Creek Park at 5:30 am, arriving at Deam Lake State Recreation Area for a prompt start at 7:00 am. Each checkpoint along the way marks significant milestones in this endurance challenge, testing both physical and mental limits of runners. Trailblazer Running fosters an inclusive environment where all participants are welcome to declare their gender identity without requiring additional evidence during registration. This includes options for male, female, or non-binary categories. Upon completion of the race, finishers will have their names etched onto a unique piece of live edge wood known as the Finisher Slab, commemorating this achievement with a permanent record. In addition to celebrating every runner's accomplishment, top three male and female finishers at each distance earn custom podium awards crafted by Joe Hardin of HT Hardwood Designs. While there are no additional awards for non-binary categories currently, Trailblazer Running continues to strive towards greater inclusivity within the running community. For those facing life changes such as pregnancy or becoming a parent after registration, deferral options up to two years are available upon request and submission of necessary documentation. This policy aims to support runners experiencing unforeseen circumstances while maintaining fair competition guidelines. The Knobstone 50 Miler is more than just a race; it’s an adventure that inspires a sense of community and environmental stewardship among trail enthusiasts in the heart of Indiana's natural beauty.
