La Milla Llanera

The Llanera Mile and 5K races are part of the prestigious Medal Challenge, offering runners an exciting opportunity to compete on December 6, 2026, in Barrio Candelaria Arenas, Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. The event kicks off with a scenic 5K run at 6:15 AM, followed by the Mile race immediately after.
The special Mile Llanera event takes place two days earlier on December 4, held at the Marie Lande Mathieu Athletic Track in Toa Baja and is exclusive to invited participants. This elite competition showcases top runners from around the world competing for significant cash prizes.
For both events, awards are given out across various categories including general male and female divisions with substantial payouts: $5000 for first place, $2000 for second, and $1000 for third in international competitions. Local competitors vie for smaller but still impressive rewards such as $500 for the top finisher.
The Masters category (40 years and older) offers a more modest prize structure with $100 going to first place, followed by $75 and $50 respectively. Wheelchair racers also compete for similar awards in their division.
In addition to these main events, there is an equally competitive 5K race where the top three finishers earn prizes of $300, $200, and $100 each.
Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with both courses as they navigate through Barrio Candelaria Arenas for the 5K event. The Mile Llanera track provides a flat and fast surface ideal for setting personal bests or national records.
Race times will be electronically recorded ensuring accurate results, though no runner can receive double prizes from either the general competition or age category awards. All participants must adhere to official rules and regulations set forth by race organizers.
