The Last in the Saddle is an exhilarating last-rider-standing cycling challenge held on Henry Hudson Drive within Palisades Interstate Park. This 14.2-mile out-and-back loop, known for its varied terrain and stunning views of the Hudson River, offers a mix of steady grades, rolling hills, and fast descents.
Starting at dawn when the park opens, this self-supported event requires participants to navigate through light traffic on Henry Hudson Drive. The course demands both physical prowess and mental fortitude with 1,170 feet of elevation gain spread across its length. Riders must complete each loop within 60 minutes; those who finish early start their next lap exactly one hour later.
The race continues until only one cyclist remains, able to complete a full lap in less time than everyone else. If no single rider can outpace the others consistently, the event concludes with an open ending, marking the end of this grueling but rewarding endurance test on one of New York's most iconic cycling routes.
