Laurel Highlands Ultra - Fall Classic

About the Event

The LHU Fall Classic returns this autumn with an exciting twist: a 50-mile ultramarathon along the stunning Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (LHHT). This year’s race, set to start at Mile Marker 46 on Route 30 and finish in Ohiopyle at the trailhead on Garrett Road, promises runners a challenging yet rewarding journey through some of Pennsylvania's most breathtaking landscapes.
The route is an awe-inspiring point-to-point adventure that traverses over 7,500 feet of elevation gain and nearly 8,500 feet of descent. The course takes you from the quiet tranquility of Mile Marker 46 to the lively finish line in Ohiopyle, a picturesque town nestled along the Youghiogheny River.
For those who prefer team dynamics over solo challenges, there’s also an exciting relay option for up to five participants. Each runner will tackle legs ranging from four to fourteen miles, providing varied terrain and distances that cater to all levels of endurance runners. Relay exchange points are yet to be finalized but updates will be available on the event website.
Aid stations positioned strategically throughout the course offer a wide array of essential supplies for both hydration and nutrition. From Skratch Labs electrolytes to hearty fare like potatoes, pretzels, chips, fruit, peanut butter sandwiches, and even some local favorites such as quesadillas and pierogi, runners can expect well-stocked aid stations manned by dedicated volunteers.
The race day experience begins with early morning check-ins at 4:00 AM for the 5:00 AM start. Spectators will have access to designated points along the route to cheer on their loved ones or friends. The post-race party kicks off around noon, providing a warm welcome and celebration for all finishers.
Supporting this event is the Pennsylvania Parks & Forest Foundation (PPFF), whose tireless efforts in maintaining trails across Western PA make events like these possible. Donations can be made to support their ongoing work in preserving these natural wonders.
Every participant will receive a finisher award upon crossing the line, and top honors are reserved for individual runners as well as relay teams, with special recognition given to non-binary athletes, female competitors, male racers, mixed relays, and gender-specific relay divisions.
Join us this fall at the LHU Fall Classic for an unforgettable race experience that combines natural beauty, community spirit, and athletic challenge in one exhilarating event.
This year’s edition of the LHU Fall Classic not only celebrates endurance but also champions the importance of trail maintenance and conservation efforts through partnerships with local organizations like PPFF. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to explore Pennsylvania's stunning trails while contributing to their preservation for future generations.
