Luke's Legacy Fun Run

The Luke's Legacy Fun Run returns to Lions Park in St. Albert on Saturday, September 27th, 2026. The event kicks off at 9:30am, bringing together runners and families for a morning of fun and support.
Lions Park is the heart of the race experience; its lush greenery provides a scenic backdrop as participants navigate through the park's firm, slightly soft terrain. On race day, expect temperatures to hover around 15°C with a UV index at moderate levels—perfect conditions for an outdoor event. Participants can enjoy refreshments and games while cheering on their fellow runners.
Since its inception in 2014, Luke’s Legacy Fun Run has grown from a community gathering into a significant annual tradition. The race supports the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, raising funds to aid children in need of medical care. Over the years, thousands have participated, with hundreds more signing up each year to honor Luke Abma and his legacy.
The course takes runners through Lions Park’s well-maintained pathways, offering a mix of firm trails suitable for both runs and walks. The 5K run/walk offers adults and children alike an engaging challenge, while the 1km walk is perfect for younger participants or those looking to start their race journey. Both distances promise a rewarding experience on the park’s firm but slightly soft surface.
Race morning begins with runners gathering at Lions Park's main entrance, located off 92nd Street just north of 84th Avenue NE. The 5K run/walk will see participants starting and finishing within the same area to ensure safety and ease for all attendees. A single aid station will be set up along the course path to provide refreshments.
Weather conditions on race day are expected to feel comfortable, with temperatures ranging between 13°C and 17°C, a moderate UV index indicating just enough sun without being too harsh. Wind is minimal, ensuring clear skies for all participants as they navigate through the park.
