About the Event

Since its inception in 2017, the Madeira Swimrun has become an iconic annual adventure that harnesses the island's breathtaking natural beauty and challenging terrain. Nestled off the coast of North Africa, Madeira is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Atlantic," a moniker well-earned by its lush landscapes and mild climate.
Participants embark on this thrilling journey from Ponta de São Lourenço, where crystal-clear waters meet rugged cliffs in one of Madeira's most picturesque spots. The route then leads them through Caniçal towards Machico city, weaving through the island’s diverse terrain that includes steep ascents like Pico do Facho and challenging sea crossings at Prainha and Ribeira do Natal.
The event is meticulously organized by the Ludens Machico club in collaboration with the Regional Triathlon Association of Madeira. This partnership ensures a seamless experience for all participants, highlighting both the natural splendor and rich cultural heritage of Madeira. The island’s warm Gulf Stream influence keeps its sea temperatures inviting year-round: averaging 22°C in summer and 18°C in winter, providing optimal conditions for swimrun enthusiasts.
As runners transition between land and water, they encounter a diverse range of challenges that test their endurance and adaptability. From the serene beauty of coastal paths to the rugged ascent up Pico do Facho, each segment offers unique rewards and obstacles.
