Experience the Maine Woods Rambler, hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) and Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), from September 25 to 27, 2026. Set amidst the heart-stirring landscapes of Maine’s 100-Mile Wilderness, this event promises a unique blend of adventure and camaraderie. The highlight is Saturday's ride, which offers multiple route options for all skill levels. The Small Route (22 miles) takes you through well-maintained gravel roads to pristine lakeside views and local mountain vistas. For those seeking more challenge, the Medium Route (33 miles) circles Roach Ponds on similar terrain but adds a rugged twist with elevation gains of 2,100 feet. The Large Route (47 miles) is designed for seasoned cyclists who are ready to tackle varied terrains and spectacular views. Riders will navigate through both smooth gravel roads and more rugged sections that may require hike-a-biking. The XL Route (79 miles), open only by special permission on the day of the event, is a grueling adventure with 6,500 feet in elevation gain—suitable for experienced riders prepared to face varied terrain. The weekend kicks off Friday evening at Medawisla Lodge, where you can register and enjoy dinner. Saturday morning starts early with breakfast followed by rides that begin from 7 AM onwards. Each route offers its own unique challenges and breathtaking scenery, making the Maine Woods Rambler a must-attend event for any avid cyclist. Beyond the rides, the weekend is packed with activities like bikerafting, evening fireside chats, and dark sky stargazing. The post-ride meal on Saturday includes vegetarian options, dietary restriction choices, side dishes, and dessert—accompanied by lodge beer and wine until 8 PM. Enjoy s’mores around the fire, star-gaze under a clear night sky, or simply unwind with friendly company. Accommodation is available at Medawisla Lodge & Cabins from Friday through Sunday, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, lodging is not included in ride registration; you must book directly with AMC by calling 603-466-2727 between Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event takes place on gravel logging roads where cell service and WiFi are limited. Bring a printed map or download directions before your trip, as GPS can be unreliable in the area. Low clearance vehicles should avoid this route due to rough conditions. Helmets must be worn at all times, and riders are encouraged to wear blaze orange for visibility during hunting season. E-bikes (Class 1, 2, and 3) are allowed on most routes except the XL Route, which permits only Class 1 and 3 e-bikes. The event will proceed rain or shine with no refunds after September 4. Mark your calendar for an unforgettable weekend of cycling in Maine’s pristine wilderness!
