Immerse yourself in the vibrant landscapes of Costa Rica by running the San José Marathon. This event offers runners four distinct distances: 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon, alongside a team relay option for those preferring to share the journey with friends or family. Set against the backdrop of one of Central America's most biodiverse countries—where lush rainforests meet misty mountains—the San José Marathon provides an unforgettable experience. Costa Rica spans just 51,100 square kilometers but packs in a wealth of natural beauty and ecological richness that runners will encounter along their route. The race courses wind through diverse terrains, from bustling streets lined with colonial architecture to serene countryside paths surrounded by verdant vegetation. Participants can expect varied elevations and temperatures as they traverse the tropical climate, which remains relatively consistent year-round thanks to Costa Rica's location between two oceans. For international runners, communication is a breeze; while Spanish is the official language, English and other European languages are widely spoken in tourist areas, making it easy for visitors to navigate and enjoy their stay. The San José Marathon promises not just a race but an adventure into one of Central America’s most enchanting destinations. Join this scenic marathon to explore Costa Rica's natural wonders while pushing your limits on the track.

About San José
Learn more about the host city, San José.
San José is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. The undisputed cultural and economic center of Costa Rica's central valley, where most of the population lives, San José is also the most important transportation hub for domestic travel even though the international airport is in Alajuela. Many international visitors bypass San José altogether or spend only the time it takes to change from one bus to another, but its museums, cultural output and the opportunity to meet the "real Costa Rica" make it well worth staying a few days.
