The MEDIACITYUK SWIM CHALLENGE invites endurance enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the invigorating world of open water marathon swimming. Set against the backdrop of Dock 9, this venue offers both safety and excitement with an expert team dedicated to ensuring swimmers' well-being throughout their journey. Competitors can choose from various distances: a grueling 15km course consisting of fifteen clockwise laps, a ten-kilometer swim over ten laps, or opt for the more manageable five kilometers in just five circuits. For younger athletes aged between 10 and 15 years old, there's also an accessible one-and-a-half kilometer event. Race day begins with briefings on Dockside ten minutes prior to each start time, ensuring all participants are well-prepared before diving into the water. Swimmers will begin from a deep-water position for their respective events, touching timing pads at designated intervals along the route to record lap times accurately. Feeding stations are provided exclusively for 15km and 10km swimmers near the right-hand steps of Dock 9, allowing them to refuel during their marathon effort. Swimmers can either use this service or bring a support person with food supplies tailored to individual needs. With water temperatures expected around 19°C, participants are advised to assess their comfort levels and acclimatization requirements carefully. Wetsuits are recommended for those who might struggle in cooler conditions; however, skin-swimming is also an option for the more seasoned competitors. The event prizes include trophies for both male and female champions across categories of wetsuit and non-wetsuit swimmers at all distances, as well as a junior champion title for 1.5km participants (F/M). Swimmers are encouraged to prepare adequately with open water practice sessions leading up to the race day and arrive early enough to acclimate in the water prior to their start times. Additional services like XCover can be purchased by those who wish to secure insurance against unforeseen circumstances that might prevent them from participating.

About Manchester
Learn more about the host city, Manchester.
Manchester is a vibrant, post-industrial gem at the heart of North West England. The city that used to be nicknamed 'Cottonopolis' has hung up its clogs and, thanks to successive regeneration projects, is now a major centre for culture and commerce; seen by many as the capital of the north of England, and sometimes regarded as England's second city.
