Megunticook Trail Festival

About the Event

Experience the breathtaking beauty of Maine’s Camden Hills State Park at the Megunticook Trail Festival. This unique gathering features three trail races that showcase the park's diverse terrain and stunning vistas, where mountains meet sea.
The centerpiece is the Megunticook 50K, a grueling yet rewarding journey covering over 90% of the park’s trails with nearly no repetition. With a total elevation gain of more than 7600 feet, this race challenges even seasoned ultrarunners as you climb and descend through rugged terrain filled with rocks and roots. The course includes six aid stations distributed throughout, allowing runners to refuel before tackling the next section. As you ascend Mount Megunticook—the second highest peak along the Atlantic Coast—you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of Penobscot Bay stretching out toward the open ocean.
For those looking for a less daunting challenge, there’s the Halfast 20K. This race offers a mix of wide gravel trails and scenic singletrack through Camden Hills State Park. With an elevation gain of approximately 1900 feet, it provides both new trail runners and experienced racers with a fast-paced option that still captures the essence of Maine's natural beauty.
Rounding out the festival is the Wicked Tough 10K, a shorter but equally challenging race through singletrack trails. Offering breathtaking views from Battie Mountain and Megunticook’s shoulder, this course features over 1600 feet of elevation gain that will test your endurance as you navigate rocky ledges overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
All races begin on Saturday, September 12th, with bib pickup available Friday evening or early morning race day. Registration fees include a t-shirt and post-race meal, making it easy to celebrate your achievement after crossing the finish line.
The Megunticook Trail Festival honors the Wabanaki Nations who have stewarded these lands for generations by offering free entry to Indigenous participants from all nations. Runners can also support Niweskok during registration—a local organization dedicated to strengthening food sovereignty and community connections in Penobscot Bay.
Join us at Camden Hills State Park as we celebrate trail running, stunning natural beauty, and the rich cultural heritage of this unique region.

Scenic view of

Camden is an affluent town in the state of Maine, a little over an hour north of Portland, in the mid-coast region of Maine. It has been a tourist destination for years and is home to some of the wealthiest individuals in Maine. It had an economic boom in the 1990s when credit card giant MBNA placed major offices there and paid for major town renovations while providing jobs to locals. Now it is an upscale seaside community with many different shops and restaurants.
