About the Event

Welcome to the Molokai Holokai Ho‘olaule‘a, celebrating its 23rd year on July 17-18, 2026. This unique two-day festival blends competitive paddling with cultural and environmental stewardship in a vibrant Hawaiian setting.
The event kicks off on Friday, July 17th, from DT Fleming Beach on Maui, crossing the Pailolo Channel to Molokai over 26 miles. Open to all paddle craft and select wind sports, this race serves as more than just a challenge—it's an opportunity to connect with the community.
Saturday brings a variety of races and activities:
- The Kamalo Downwinder offers a thrilling 10-mile journey.
- A 5-mile paddling event awaits for those seeking a shorter but equally rewarding experience.
- Families can participate in the Keiki and Makua Race, covering three-quarters of a mile together.
Youngsters won't be left out; they'll enjoy the Holo Fun Run with distances ranging from 16K to just 1K. Additional highlights include beach clean-up activities that engage ‘ohana (families) and keiki (children), reinforcing environmental awareness through hands-on experiences.
Cultural workshops, live music, and local food will add to the festive atmosphere throughout both days. The event emphasizes Hawaiian values such as caring for land and sea, community involvement, cultural respect, and honoring language traditions.
All participants benefit from all-inclusive on-island transportation, ensuring a smooth race experience without worrying about logistics. Even those unable to join in person can participate virtually through the Global Challenge.

Kaunakakai is a census-designated place (CDP) in Maui County, Hawaiʻi, United States. It is the largest town on the island of Molokaʻi. The population was 3,419 at the 2020 census. It has the largest port on the island and the longest pier in Hawaii. The town was made famous in the 1930s by the song "The Cockeyed Mayor of Kaunakakai", beginning an ongoing tradition of designating an honorary mayor for the town.
