Experience the Mount Greylock Century, presented by Berkshire Velo 413, an epic cycling challenge through western Massachusetts. Starting from Shire Breu-Hous at 63 Flansburg Ave, Dalton, MA 01226, this event offers some of the most demanding climbs in the region. While the north side of Mount Greylock and Kingsley Hill Road have earned their reputation for steep ascents, don't overlook Monroe Hill, Windsor, and East Hoosac—each offering unique challenges. Riders will navigate quiet backcountry roads, enjoying panoramic views that are among the finest in the county. Compact gearing is recommended as you'll encounter mid-teens to higher percent grades multiple times over 12,000 feet of climbing. The route is considered one of the most challenging centuries in the Northeast, making it a true test for seasoned cyclists. Register and park your bike at the Stationery Factory in Dalton, Massachusetts. Century riders will have a group start at 7:30 AM sharp; Metric Century participants can begin at their own pace starting at 9:30 AM. Anticipate an additional two hours to complete this ride compared to your usual century route. Support along the way is available through five strategically placed aid stations, ensuring you stay fueled until around 4:30 PM. Post-ride recovery awaits at The Shire Tavern, where they will open their kitchen doors from 3:30 PM onwards, offering a full menu and complimentary beers using fare tickets—a perfect opportunity to refuel before the long drive home. Stay informed with last-minute updates on Berkshire Velo’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/BerkshireVelo/). This event is rain or shine, so come prepared for all conditions. Remember, this ride requires careful pacing; slower riders are encouraged to opt for the Metric Century route and finish by 5 PM to avoid being abandoned mid-ride. With over 12,000 feet of climbing ahead, Mount Greylock Century promises an unforgettable cycling adventure through some of Massachusetts' most scenic landscapes.
