Nestled just south of Mt. Hood's majestic peaks, the Mt. Hood Races have been captivating trail runners for 27 years with their stunning landscapes and unforgettable race experience. This year’s edition promises an exhilarating journey through the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), offering three distinct distances that cater to a wide range of abilities. The centerpiece event is the grueling yet rewarding 50-mile course, which loops out-and-back along the PCT. A notable change this year sees runners embarking on the southern portion first before heading north for their final push towards the finish line at the Historic Clackamas Ranger Station. This route adjustment adds a fresh twist to an already beloved trail. For those seeking a more moderate challenge, the 50K and 25K races provide equally scenic routes through some of Oregon’s most breathtaking terrain. Both distances include segments around Timothy Lake and along historic trails such as Headwaters and Old 1916 Trail before returning to the finish line at Clackamas Ranger Station. The trail conditions are a mix of soft, runnable paths with occasional technical sections featuring rocks and roots that test your skills but never overwhelm you. Aid stations are well-stocked throughout each course, ensuring runners stay fueled and hydrated for their journey. Registration fills quickly for these popular races, so early entry is recommended to secure your spot in the 50-mile (Saturday) or either of the shorter distances on Sunday. With a capacity limit set at 225 participants per race day, there’s no lottery system; first-come, first-served applies. Organized by Go Beyond Racing, known for their commitment to racer safety and satisfaction, these events also support local environmental initiatives through sustainable practices like waste reduction and recycling efforts. The friendly volunteer teams and well-organized logistics ensure a seamless experience from start to finish. Whether you’re tackling the full 50-mile route or one of the shorter options, prepare yourself for an adventure that combines stunning views with challenging terrain, all while being part of a vibrant racing community at Mt. Hood’s doorstep. Should your plans change and cancellation becomes necessary more than 30 days before race day, you’ll receive a credit towards any future Go Beyond Racing event—excluding sold-out races—that can be used within one year from issuance.
