Mud Creek Crawl Trail Run

The Mud Creek Crawl Pt. 6 marks the conclusion of Chapter One, an enduring saga that has captivated runners across Michigan for years. This year's edition features both virtual and live events, with Barc (Bay Area Running Club) continuing to host Richard’s unique trail race as their sole offering.
Originating from the Tri-City Nordic Ski Club under Don Kane, this event was later taken over by John McPeak before being handed off temporarily to Tri-to-Finish (now Dig Deep). Throughout these transitions, Midland County Parks and Recreation has remained a steadfast partner, allowing runners to traverse through Pine Haven's lush trails.
During its heyday under McPeak’s leadership, the Mud Creek Crawl was recognized as one of _Runner's World_'s top 13 off-road races in America. While we may not reach that level this year, organizers are committed to striving for excellence once more. One highlight is a handicapping system based on body type, age, and gender, which will be implemented again if possible.
Runners can expect the trademark "clown show" atmosphere typical of Richard's events—clearly marked courses but no guarantees about aid stations along the route. For those who want to push their limits beyond the 5K distance, there’s a separate 10K course with its own set of challenges and scenic routes.
Participants will receive dark blue sleeveless tech shirts (resembling muscle shirts) as part of their registration package if they sign up by September 3rd. The shirt features an updated comic strip panel on the back reflecting this chapter's storyline, adding a touch of whimsy to your race day attire.
Registration costs $15 without a shirt or $40 with one (an additional $2.50 for XXL sizes). These prices reflect efforts to keep the shirts affordable despite their vibrant color scheme and premium quality.
Join us on September 19th at Pine Haven Recreation Area, where you'll experience a race that has earned almost cult status among local runners. With natural turf, sand, mud, roots, and rocks along the course, prepare for an adventure through Michigan’s scenic landscapes.
